Artist Management Services Supports Business School's £50 Challenge
We are delighted to share the news that we as a business are supporting a group of selected students from Nottingham Trent University, in collaboration with the Institute of Directors. Every year, the university nominates a section of their students to become student members of the IoD, giving them access to additional support, a mentoring programme and a number of business-specific events designed to boost their real-world experience.
One such event is the £50 Challenge, where students are put into teams and are tasked with turning £50 into as much profit as possible in a set amount of time, with money raised going to charity. The challenge is done in partnership with the students' IoD mentors; Artist Management's CEO, Ben Marshall, spoke about how excited he is to be taking on a mentoring role this year:
"Both as a business and as individuals, we are passionate about seeing young people succeed. The £50 Challenge is a great opportunity for students, as not only does it put their entrepreneurial thinking to the test in fun and practical way, it also gives them access to advice from business leaders whose encouragement and wisdom can make a really positive impact. I'm delighted to be mentoring this year and can't wait to see and hear the ideas our teams come up with."
COVID-19 restrictions mean that, unlike previous years, a lot of the challenge will be happening remotely.
Ron Lynch, Director of Universities and Student Engagement for the East Midlands, spoke about the reciprocal nature of the mentoring programme, and how it's not only the students who stand to benefit from the scheme:
"The... challenge is a great opportunity to support students who want to stretch their entrepreneurial muscles and raise money for a good cause. It also provides an opportunity for reverse mentoring for the mentors who participate. Having been a mentor myself, I can say that I learned a great deal from the team of young people I supported - it was certainly beneficial to both parties. Guiding students towards more strategic and entrepreneurial ideas is a valuable and worthwhile experience. The students will definitely surprise you when you encourage them to think outside the box!”
