AMS Support Sleep 1000 Refugee Project

Artist Management Services are proud to be supporting the Sleep 1000 project – a charitable endeavour aiming to deliver one thousand sleeping bags and thermal blankets for Ukrainian refugees arriving in Poland.

The project has been spearheaded by a selection of local heroes who will next week undertake the mammoth task of driving the donated goods across Europe, from Nottingham to the Polish city of Krakow. Well over 1000 miles and involving several days of travel, the lengthy journey will involve a small fleet of vans setting off from the Nottinghamshire town of Hucknall early next week.

Despite the logistical challenges the job presents, local Sleep 1000 volunteer, Alex Marshall, was hugely optimistic about the project and the benefit it will bring to the refugees fleeing Ukraine:

"We knew we had to do something to help," he said. "We were told by a Polish couple, who are actually currently housing some Ukrainian refugees in Krakow, that there was a real shortage of sleeping equipment. We put out a call to the local community and people responded brilliantly. We are well on our way to smashing our target and I can't wait to get behind the wheel and go!"

As well as local volunteers, the project has seen huge support from local businesses, churches, local schools, and Nottingham Forest players Joe Worrall and Ryan Yates. The project has been keeping everyone updated with videos posted on social media, with accompanying photos showing volunteers surrounded by mountains of sleeping bags and other donated goods.

"We're so proud to support this amazing cause," said Artist Management Services' Jason Moore. "As well as making donations, we've allowed the project to make use of one of our vans. We've also been holding collections in partnership with a local church. The way the community has responded has been nothing short of inspirational. We're looking forward to following the team's progress after they leave Calais."

As well as the donation of physical goods, The Sleep 1000 charity is also welcoming cash donations through Just Giving. Their page has already seen hundreds of donations totalling over £12,000 which will be used to purchase additional goods to be given to refugees. The people fleeing Ukraine are often doing so with little more than the clothes on their backs, so every goodwill gesture is sure to make a difference.
